COMPETITION RULES
All competitions will be played under Level 3 of the Orange Book published by the EBU with the exception
of the Tankard Trophy which will be played under Level 1.
All members can play on competition evenings whether participating in the competition or not.
Visitors will not be eligible to win competitions. Any pair or team containing a visitor will not qualify
for competitions.
1. CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS (CLARKE SHIELD)
The competition is to be played over eight evenings of which a minimum of five events must be played by
the same pair to qualify. The competition shall be played as Duplicate Pairs using a Mitchell movement
with N/S and E/W winners. However if there are less than 7 full tables a Howell or Hesitation Mitchell
single winner movement may be played instead at the discretion of the Director.
The overall winner of the Clarke Shield shall be the pair with the highest aggregate points scored from
their five (5) qualifying scores. In the case of a tie in the number of points scored at the end of the
competition the highest average percentage achieved for the 5 qualifying scores shall determine the winner.
2. VAL BEARD MEMORIAL TROPHY
The Beard Trophy competition is played over seven evenings during the year and to qualify for the Trophy
players must play on at least four evenings with at least four different partners. The best four results
with different people will qualify for the Trophy. If you partner the same player more than once then
only one score, the best, will count.
The competition shall be played as Duplicate Pairs using a Mitchell movement with N/S and E/W winners.
However if there are less than 7 full tables a Howell or Hesitation Mitchell single winner movement may
be played instead at the discretion of the Director.
Although club members are banded by the committee into A and B bands there is no restriction on any
player playing with any other player from either band subject to paragraph one above. The overall winner
of the Val Beard Memorial Trophy shall be the individual player with the highest aggregate points scored
from their four qualifying scores. In the case of a tie in the number of points scored at the end of the
competition the highest average percentage achieved for the four qualifying scores shall determine the winner.
3. MILLENNIUM TROPHY
The winner of the Millennium Trophy shall be the player from band B who has recorded the highest aggregate
points score from the four qualifying scores in the Beard Trophy.
In the case of a tie in the number of points scored the highest average percentage achieved for the four
qualifying scores shall determine the winner.
The winner of the Beard Trophy will not qualify for participation in the Millennium Trophy.
4. JOAN INGS MEMORIAL TROPHY
The Joan Ings Memorial Trophy shall be played as a single evening Duplicate Pairs event using a one winner
movement: either a Mitchell movement with an arrow switch in accordance with the EBU guidelines or a Howell movement
at the discretion of the Director.
5. ROEBUCK ROSE BOWL
The winner of the Roebuck Rose Bowl shall be the player who scores the most master points from normal
Tuesday Club events awarded on the Club scale issued by the EBU
6. MONDAY MASTER POINT TROPHY
The winner of the Monday Master Point trophy shall be the player who scores the most master points from
normal Monday Club events awarded on the Club scale issued by the EBU
7. CLOCK TROPHY
The winner of the Clock Trophy shall be the player whose percentage over all duplicate pairs events played
on Club Tuesday evenings shows the biggest improvement over the previous year’s percentage.
A minimum of 18 scores must have been achieved in both years to qualify.
8. TANKARD TROPHY
The Tankard Trophy is played as an Individual event over three Monday evenings. The winner shall be the player
who scores the highest winning percentage from their best two out of the three qualifying events.
9. MONDAY GROUP PAIRS CHAMPION CUP
The Monday Group Pairs Champion Cup shall be played as a single evening Duplicate Pairs event played for
on a Monday night using a one winner movement: either a Mitchell Movement with an arrow switch in accordance
with the EBU guidelines or a Howell movement.
10. CHISHICK VASE
The Chishick vase will be awarded to the club member who records the most attendances at Club evenings.
